About the 48/5 Film Competition

At the East Lansing Film Festival 5/5  and 48/5 Film Contests, filmmakers come together to write, shoot, edit, and premiere an original five-minute film in the designated time period. These contests draw an exciting array of talented teams, including amateurs, professionals, students, and local film fanatics.

At the start of the contests, teams are given three specific elements they must incorporate into their finished film. To add to the challenge, each teams draws a genre from a hat. Finished films that meet the deadline are judged on how well they incorporate these elements.

Team leaders may register online or in person the day of the contest. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Unregistered late teams will be disqualified. The winners will also be shown at the East Lansing Film Festival in the Fall.

5 Days/5 Minutes  Participation Agreement

This is an agreement between the Team Producer representing a film team (hereafter known as “The Entrant”) and the East Lansing Film Festival 5 Days/5 Minutes Film Contest (hereafter known as “ELFF 5/5 Film Contest”), with respect to the Entrant’s involvement in the ELFF 5/5 Film Contest and creation of a short film or video (the "Film") pursuant to the terms below.

The Entrant hereby agrees to take part in the ELFF 5/5 Film Contest, being produced by the East Lansing Film Festival. The Entrant hereby states that he/she has read, and agrees to abide by, the Rules of the Competition. It is understood that ELFF 5/5 Film Contest reserves the right to screen or exhibit only those films/videos that adhere to the Rules of the Competition. Entrant hereby understands that he/she is responsible for all crew, cast, equipment, sets, locations, and other items necessary for participating in ELFF 5/5 Film Contest and all costs, expenses, damages and claims related thereto.

ELFF 5/5 Film Contest is providing the event and guidelines in which the Entrant is taking part; a screening opportunity for all of the completed work; and a prize for the first, second and third place winners.

The Entrant hereby affirms that he/she will secure a Video Shoot Release Form & Limited Liability Release Form with signatures and e-mails of all cast and crew and hereby indemnifies, saves and holds harmless ELFF 5/5 Film Contest from any and all claims, costs, damages, expenses and liabilities arising from the creation, use or participation hereunder (including, but not limited to claims for negligence and other torts, unauthorized exhibition, discrimination, fraud, infringement and breach of contract) of Entrant’s film/video. Entrant hereby acknowledges that ELFF 5/5 Film Contest has the right to screen, show, exhibit, broadcast or disseminate in any way possible, including and not limited to theatrical release, broadcast television, home video, cable television and/or the internet; and the right to publicize ELFF 5/5 Film Contests using the name or images of the “Film."

Entrant and ELFF 5/5 Film Contest hereby agree that the Entrant retains the international rights for his/her Film. Any additional domestic screenings, dissemination or broadcast on the part of the Entrant are welcomed but need the express written consent of the ELFF 5/5 Film Contest.

Entrant hereby acknowledges that participation in ELFF 5/5 Film Contest is without remuneration or compensation whatsoever. The consideration for participating in the project is the screening of the participant’s completed film/video at the conclusion of the competition; and the possibility, although not the obligation by the ELFF 5/5 Film Contest, for future domestic screenings; and the opportunity for publicity or exposure for being a participant.
