Directed by Justin Chan

As America recognizes the 25th anniversary of the LA riots, revisit that moment in history from a perspective you’ve never seen before. Two Korean-American brothers and an 11-year-old African-American girl test their friendship when they’re trapped in the brothers’ struggling South Central shoe store while the riots erupt around them. Winner of the NEXT Audience Award at Sundance, the film’s starkly beautiful black-and-white imagery draws from his childhood memories that include humor, karaoke and in-your-face sensibilities. It’s truly something to see.

“Loved GOOK.  Hauntingly beautiful.  The  racial tension and violence was tempered by the warmth and playfulness between the main characters. Highly recommend.”
