The Last Laugh

Directed by Ferne Pearlstein
88 min

Can you joke about the Holocaust or how about 9/11 or AIDS? Find out in this brilliant film that weaves together film clips, stand-up performances, interviews with many notable Jewish comedians including Mel Brooks, Rob Reiner and Sarah Silverman. But the most resonant perspective comes from Holocaust survivor Renee Firestone as she reflects on finding glimmers of light in the darkest of times. A range of answers are provided underlining just how personal, and changeable, notions of humor and offense are. Director Pearlstein deftly provides plenty of laughs in her thoughtful examination of these issues.
